Help us Celebrate Baptism this Sunday.
Baptism is not merely a ritual—it is a sacred testimony of obedience to Christ and identification with His death, burial, and resurrection. As conservative Baptists, we affirm that baptism follows personal salvation and serves as a public declaration of faith. The Lord Jesus Himself set the example: “Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him” (Matthew 3:13). Though sinless, Christ submitted to baptism to fulfill all righteousness, showing us the path of humble obedience.
We believe baptism by immersion best reflects the biblical pattern and symbolism. When a believer enters the water, it signifies dying to the old life; when they rise, it proclaims new life in Christ. Romans 6:4 declares, “Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.” This act does not save, but it powerfully affirms that salvation has already occurred. It is a joyful, reverent step in the believer’s journey of discipleship.
Moreover, baptism unites us visibly with the body of Christ. It is a witness to the church and the world that we belong to Him. In Acts 2:41, we read, “Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.” Baptism is a doorway into fellowship, a celebration of grace, and a call to live boldly for the gospel. May we never treat it lightly, but embrace it as a holy ordinance, given by our Savior and cherished by His church.
