What does the Lord's Table have to do with Easter?

Matthew 26:27-30

1. Old Story

For 14 centuries the Passover had been pointing forward to the coming of Jesus, the Passover Lamb. Jesus ate the Passover, replaced it with His own supper, and then was Himself slain as the Passover Lamb.

Mark 14:12 And the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the passover, his disciples said unto him, Where wilt thou that we go and prepare that thou mayest eat the passover?

2. New Story

Passover Lamb – Precious Lamb of God vs. 26

Blood of the Animals to the Blood of the Lamb of God

Bread of Affliction to the Body Broken for You

  1. Object Lesson

His Death is the benefit, not the bread.

Dying and shedding of His blood is the benefit, not the juice.

  1. Observance
  2. Covenant

3. Your Story

  1. The Lamb of God slain for your sins is sufficient to satisfy the wrath of God.
  2. We must remember and celebrate what He has done.
  3. We look forward to the time He returns.
