27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.;
4 The Spirit of God has made me, And the breath of the Almighty gives me life.;
6 Oh come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before the LORD our Maker.;
3 Know that the LORD, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.;
73 Your hands have made me and fashioned me; Give me understanding, that I may learn Your commandments.;
Myth 1: An Unborn Baby Is Only a Mass of Tissue
At conception, a new and totally different human being with forty-eight chromosomes (the same as any other human) exists, having the capability of replacing his own dying cells.
On the thirteenth day the baby is one-fourth of an inch long with a brain, human proportions, eyes, ears, mouth, kidney, liver, stomach, intestines and a spinal cord and nervous system.
By the eighteenth day, a heart in its early stages of development has begun pumping its own blood.
At six and one-half weeks, the skeleton is complete, and the first movements are made.
The two-month-old baby attains the ability to grasp objects, swim, hiccup, suck his thumb; and he wakes and sleeps with regularity.
At the eleven-week stage, all body systems are formed and at work.
The baby now breathes, swallows, is sensitive to pain and is an independent individual.
Present systems will grow and mature, but nothing new will develop in the body.
The sixteen-week-old baby has grown to five and one-half inches long.
Toes and fingers have now formed, and facial features are clearly evident.
"Quickening" is first felt at eighteen weeks as the baby, now active and energetic, flexes his muscles, punches and kicks.
By the twentieth week, which represents the first half of the gestation period, babies are often born prematurely and are still alive after birth.
Myth 2: An Unborn Baby Cannot Feel Pain
Myth 3: Only the Government Can Determine Personhood
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”
Myth 4: The Vast Majority of Americans Support Abortion
Based on current abortion rates, about one in three women will have an abortion by age 45.6
- 44 percent of women who had abortions in the U.S. had at least one previous abortion.
- Almost half (49%) of abortions are among women and teens 24 years old and younger.
- Women aged 20-24 obtain 32% of all abortions, and teenagers obtain 16%.
- 84 percent of women who had abortions in the U.S. were unmarried.
- Nearly 60% of abortions are among women who have had one or more children.
- Nearly two-thirds of women having abortions say they are Christians.
Historically, the abortion industry intentionally markets abortion as a solution to women of color, locating their clinics in ethnic neighborhoods.
About 13 percent of American women are black, yet they account for over 35 percent of all abortions.
Less than 1 in 6 Caucasian pregnancies end in abortion.
Almost 1 in 2 African-American Pregnancies end in abortion.
Hispanic women account for 25% of abortions.
The abortion rate among African-American women is three times higher than among white women.
Nearly 75% say a baby would interfere with work, school or other responsibilities.
Nearly 75% say they cannot afford to have a child.
Nearly 50% say they do not want to be a single parent or they are having problems with their husband/partner.
Myth 5: It is Not Our Problem
27 Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.
8 Open your mouth for the speechless, In the cause of all who are appointed to die.
11 Deliver those who are drawn toward death, And hold back those stumbling to the slaughter.
12 If you say, “Surely we did not know this,” Does not He who weighs the hearts consider it? He who keeps your soul, does He not know it? And will He not render to each man according to his deeds?
- God creates and fashions life
- The unborn are treated as persons in the Bible
5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me.;
3 The wicked are estranged from the womb; They go astray as soon as they are born, speaking lies.;
13 For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb.
14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.
15 My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me, When as yet there were none of them.;
41 And it happened, when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, that the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.
42 Then she spoke out with a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!
43 But why is this granted to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
44 For indeed, as soon as the voice of your greeting sounded in my ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.
- God forbids the murder of human life
13 “You shall not murder.
- God forgives the sin of abortion
20 Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more,
21 so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
We are to defend and protect life
