New Landscaping

Hey Church,
It’s me—the Sunday after Easter. You remember me, right? No? That’s cool. I get it. Last week was a big deal. Full house, high energy, all the caffeine. The building smelled like fresh coffee, new shoes, and the hope of salvation. There were greeters at every door, floral arrangements positioned like we were hosting a high-end wedding, and a guest-to-regular ratio that made the lead pastor tear up mid-sermon.
And now… there’s me. No triple-service schedule, no VIP parking cones, no pre-service Spotify playlist with a custom intro voiceover that says, “Get ready… something amazing is coming!” Just me, quietly existing, while half the congregation tries to convince themselves that streaming church on their phone in the car wash is the same as being in the room.
Look, I’m not bitter. I’m just saying: Easter had a vibe. There were color-coordinated families, custom signage, a three-camera livestream angle, and a sermon title with a colon in it. (“The Empty Grave: When Death Had to Back Down”) It was all amazing—and done with excellence! Truly. Nothing but respect for our production team who haven’t slept since Maundy Thursday.
But now we’re here. The photo booth is gone. The leftover candy has been “donated to the office” (which is code for “devoured by staff”). The sanctuary looks normal. The playlist is back to normal. And the volunteers? Let’s just say we’re running on a skeleton crew and a prayer.
But here’s the thing: Jesus didn’t go back in the tomb just because your calendar did. The tomb is still empty. The mission is still active. And while I might not have a hashtag or a confetti cannon, I’m actually kind of a big deal. Because I’m the Sunday where we figure out if Easter was a celebration or a turning point.
I’m the Sunday after “The Sunday”. The one that asks, “Now that you’ve celebrated the resurrection… are you going to live like it matters?” I may not come with fanfare, but I come with a challenge: show up when there’s no spotlight, no guest giveaways, no cinnamon rolls in the lobby. (Okay, there might be a few cinnamon rolls, but they’re from last week and the youth group got to them first.)
So come back. Not because it’s a holiday. But because it’s holy. Not for the production, but for the Person. Not for the hype, but for the hope that never left the building.
I’m not flashy, but I’m faithful. I’m not trending, but I’m transforming. I’m the Sunday After Easter—under-hyped, under-promoted, but fully loaded with gospel truth, authentic worship, and people who are here because Jesus is alive, not because there was a cartoon bunny on the invite card.
With slightly less sparkle but just as much Savior,
Sincerely,
The Sunday After Easter
