The Word of God Should be at Home - Colossians 3:16-17

The truth of God’s Word needs to be in charge of your life and change your life!

To Do This, there must be TIME

Time Reading the Bible

Time Learning the Bible

Time Listening to the Bible Being Taught

Time Obeying the Bible

2 Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and to the residue of the people, saying,

Fear and Disappointment was keeping them from giving their ALL for God

Why Choose Obedience and Hope over fear and disappointment?

  1. Fear & Disappointment kept them paralyzed them in the past (vs. 3)

3 Who is left among you that saw this house in her first glory? And how do ye see it now? Is it not in your eyes in comparison of it as nothing?

Signs Paralyzed in Past

  1. Unhealthy memory of how much better
  2. Unrealistic expectations of new people.
  3. Unapproachable attitude about letting people in
  4. Unwillingness to hope
  1. Fear & Disappointment prevented them from working (vs. 4)

4 Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel, saith the LORD; And be strong, O Joshua, son of Josedech, the high priest;

And be strong, all ye people of the land, saith the LORD, and work: For I am with you, saith the LORD of hosts:

“Groceries, Gas, Kids, Retirement.

People made past commitments, did not keep.”

“We are in a mess – Worried God won’t keep promises.”

“Why work, no one else is?”

“Why give, no one else is?”

“Why put myself out, plenty of other people to serve and they are sitting on their hands. They won’t even come to Sunday school or a night service.”

“I don’t make enough, don’t know enough, live too far, too close, no one speaks to me, too much baggage, too much ball, ballet, homework, etc.”

  1. Fear & Disappointment persuaded them God was not with them. (vs. 5-6)

5 According to the word that I covenanted with you when ye came out of Egypt, So my spirit remaineth among you: fear ye not.

6 For thus saith the LORD of hosts; Yet once, it is a little while, And I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land;

Why Choose Obedience and Hope over Fear & Disappointment?

  1. God is coming!

7 And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: And I will fill this house with glory, saith the LORD of hosts.

Jesus’ birth, prophesied to people in despair, without hope.

GOD IS COMING!

  1. God is going to be glorified.

7 And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: And I will fill this house with glory, saith the LORD of hosts.

The glory of the new temple will be greater.

9 The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the LORD of hosts: And in this place will I give peace, saith the LORD of hosts.

  1. God is enough and has enough

8 The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the LORD of hosts.

God can handle your finances

God will dazzle us with what He wants to do for His glory.

God asks you to

WORK

TRUST

BE ALL IN
